GATE 2014 New paper pattern


Preparations for any entrance exam or test begins with understanding the paper pattern or the structure of the exam, as it gives a direction to student’s efforts. Some important facts about the structure of GATE 2014 are as given below:

Common factor:

 One thing common for all the papers is:

- Total 65 questions for 100 marks

- Out of which 10 questions - 15 marks - General Aptitude (GA) and the remaining of the total marks are devoted to the subject of the paper.

Two different types of questions: 

In the various papers of GATE 2014, there would be questions of two different types:

(i) Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) – Objective questions carrying 1 or 2 marks, where each question will have a choice of four answers, out of which the candidate has to mark the correct answer(s), in all papers and sections. 

(ii) Numerical answer questions – Each question of 1 or 2 marks in all papers and sections. For these questions the answer is a real number, to be entered by the candidate using the virtual keypad. No choices will be shown for this type of questions.

 Design of questions:
The questions in a paper may be designed to test the following abilities:

(i) Recall: These are based on facts, principles, formulae or laws of the discipline of the paper. The candidate is expected to be able to obtain the answer either from his/her memory of the subject or at most from a one-line computation.

(ii) Comprehension: These questions will test the candidate's understanding of the basics of his/her field, by requiring him/her to draw simple conclusions from fundamental ideas.

(iii) Application: In these questions, the candidate is expected to apply his/her knowledge either through computation or by logical reasoning.

(iv) Analysis and synthesis: In these questions, the candidate is presented with data, diagrams, images etc. that require analysis before a question can be answered. A synthesis question might require the candidate to compare two or more pieces of information. 

 Marking Scheme:

- For 1 - mark multiple-choice questions, 1/3 marks will be deducted for a wrong answer. 
- For 2 - marks multiple-choice questions, 2/3 marks will be deducted for a wrong answer. 
- The GA section includes 5 questions carrying 1 mark each (sub-total 5 marks) and 5 questions carrying 2 marks each (sub-total 10 marks).
- There is no negative marking for numerical answer type questions.

NPCC Recruitment 2014 for Management Trainee through GATE


National Projects Construction Corporation Limited (NPCC) has released recruitment notification for filling up the 30 vacancies of Management Trainee posts on regular basis at Corporate Office, Zonal Offices & Projects all over India & abroad. Age Limit : The upper Age Limit is 27 years as on 30.06.2014 for the posts of Management Trainee in all disciplines.

Selection Process : Selection will be done on the basis of Graduate Aptitude test in Engineering -2014 Score card and Interview.

GSECL Recruitment for junior engineer through GATE 2014


About GSECL - Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited is a Power Generation Company of erstwhile Gujarat Electricity Board having Power Stations at different locations with installed capacity 5508 MW. GSECL offers a challenging and rewarding carrier to young and dynamic Graduates in the disciplines of Electrical, Mechanical, C&I and Civil through GATE 2014 score. The Board vide its resolution No. 130.15.2048 dated 25.09.2013 has resolved to have 80% of the total new recruitment on the basis of GATE score. Power Grid (PGCIL) Recruitment Through GATE 2014 Executive Trainee Selection Procedure : The selection process will include the marks obtained (Out of 100) by the eligible candidates in the EE paper of GATE 2014, followed by group discussion and personal interview of the candidates who qualify in the GATE paper and have been shortlisted category wise for the GD and interview. 

Candidates shall have the option for appearing the GD/interview in Hindi or English. Eligible candidates will have to appear for the Electrical Engineering (EE) paper of GATE-2014. Candidates obtaining a valid score (Marks out of 100) shall only be eligible for the next stage of selection. The score is valid only if the candidate obtains more than or equal to the qualifying marks as fixed for the EE paper of GATE 2014. 

Note : Please note that only GATE - 2014 score (Marks out of 100) is valid for this recruitment exercise. GATE score of 2013 or prior is not valid.

The selected Assistant Engineers under Post No. 05 will be appointed in the Pay Scale of Rs.16400 -40500 (IDA), and their seniority will be fixed in civil stream after amendment of recruitment rules.
